Q. (b) Identify any two types of condensation found
in your area based on your experience. Also mention the months when these two
types of condensations took place.
Ans. Two types of
condensation commonly found are:
1.
Dew: Typically seen during winter months, like December
and January, dew forms when the ground cools at night, causing
moisture in the air to condense on surfaces like grass and leaves.
2.
Fog: Common in early winter mornings during November
and December, fog forms when air near the ground cools down
and water vapor condenses into tiny droplets, reducing visibility.
Both types of condensation occur due to cooler temperatures
and higher humidity in the air.
3. Answer any one of the following questions in about 40 to 60
words.
Q.
(a) Mention any two
incidents which you heard recently and can be marked as hazard but not
disaster. Give one reason for each.
Ans. Here are two incidents that
could be marked as hazards but not disasters:
- Localized Flooding in a Low-lying Area: This incident caused temporary waterlogging, but
no significant property damage or loss of life occurred.
- Reason: It remained a hazard since the situation was controlled quickly and
didn’t escalate into a full disaster.
- Minor Earthquake Tremor: A tremor was felt in a region, but it didn’t
result in structural damage or casualties.
- Reason: It was a hazard because the tremor posed a
potential threat but didn’t cause serious harm or widespread damage.
4. Answer any one of the following questions in about 100 to 150 words.
Q. (a) ‘The Green Revolution has made India
self-reliant in terms of food grain production.’ On the basis of given statement
illustrate any four impact of Green Revolution in India.
Ans. Impact of the Green Revolution
a. Increase in Agricultural Production:
Food grains in India saw a great rise in output. It was a remarkable increase.
The biggest beneficiary of the plan was the Wheat crop. The production of wheat
increased from 11 million tons in 1960 to 55 million tons in 1990.
b. Increase in Per Acre Yield:
Green Revolution not only resulted in increased agricultural output, but has
also caused increase in per hectare yield. In the case of wheat, the per
hectare yield increased from 850 kg/hectare in 1960 to 2281 kg/ hectare by
1990.
c. Less Dependence on Imports:
After the green revolution, India was finally on its way to self-sufficiency.
There was enough food production for the population and food stock for
emergencies. We did not need to import grains or depend on other countries for
our food supply. In fact, India was able to start exporting its agricultural
produce.
d. Employment:
It was feared that commercial farming would leave a lot of the labour force
jobless. But on the other hand, we saw a rise in rural employment. This is
because the supporting industries created employment opportunities. Irrigation,
transportation, food processing, marketing all created new jobs for the
workforce.
e. A Benefit to the Farmers: The Green
Revolution majorly benefited the farmers. Their income saw a significant raise.
Not only were they surviving, they were prospering. It enabled them to shift to
commercial farming from only sustenance farming.

Q.
(b) ‘Sanitation
is a way of life.’ Justify the statement by giving any four arguments.
Ans. The statement "Sanitation is a
way of life" can be justified with the following arguments:
1. Promotes Health: Sanitation involves practices
like clean water access, waste management, and personal hygiene, all of which
prevent the transmission of diseases and promote good health, contributing to
overall well-being.
2. Environmental Protection: Proper sanitation helps
control environmental factors such as waste and pollution, which are crucial
for a clean and safe living environment.
3. Improves Quality of Life: Sanitation ensures
cleaner homes, communities, and surroundings, which leads to a better quality
of life by reducing illness and increasing comfort.
4. Reduces Mortality: By preventing diseases
like diarrhea, which are linked to poor sanitation, mortality rates, especially
in developing countries, can be significantly reduced.
6. Prepare any one project out of the following.
(a)
Identify any two
industries located in your nearby areas. Talk to elders in your family or in your
neighbourhood to find the reason behind location of these industries in your
area i.e sources of raw material, market
etc. Now, on the basis of your findings prepare a report on location of these
two industries.
Ans.
Project Work
Two Industries in the Our Local Area
1. Industry 1: Textile Manufacturing Unit
- Location: Near the
town’s outskirts.
- Raw Materials: The
textile factory is located near cotton-growing regions, which ensures a
steady and affordable supply of raw cotton. This proximity reduces
transportation costs and ensures timely delivery.
- Market: The factory is
also well-positioned near a large urban market where there is high demand
for clothing and textiles. The easy access to both national and local
markets allows for quick distribution.
- Transportation: Good
road networks and access to railways have further strengthened the
location choice, enabling efficient movement of both raw materials and
finished products.
2. Industry 2: Sugar Mill
- Location: Close to
sugarcane farms in the area.
- Raw Materials: The
sugar mill is strategically placed in an area surrounded by sugarcane
plantations, ensuring a continuous supply of raw material. Since sugarcane
is perishable, proximity to the fields helps in processing the crop
quickly.
- Market: There is a
high local demand for sugar, and the mill also exports to nearby cities,
making it a hub for regional sugar supply. The location supports both
local and broader markets.
- Energy Source: The
mill is located near a source of hydroelectric power, reducing energy
costs, which is essential for the energy-intensive sugar refining process.
Conclusion
The locations of both industries are driven primarily by
access to raw materials and proximity to markets, reducing transportation costs
and ensuring efficient production. These factors not only maximize profit but
also create employment opportunities in the region.
